New online travel marketplace launches in bid to level travel agent competition

A new website has been launched to help ‘level the playing field’ between travel agents online. The site, called HolidayCrowd, enables travel agents to create a profile that displays an online ‘shopfront’ for the business. Agents will then be notified by the website when a consumer submits a trip request relevant to their speciality. “Holiday makers are often faced with an overwhelming, yet limited, range of options when searching for their ideal trip, with an endless list of online services promising ‘the best deals’. The time has come to level the playing field with the online travel giants, and this is what HolidayCrowd strives to do,” said Ryan Pasco from HolidayCrowd. “Flipping this process on its head, HolidayCrowd enables travellers to submit a trip request which participating travel agents can assess and build a suitable itinerary, knowing that they are competing with one another.” Agents will be able to liaise with customers before and after their bid and the holiday will then be booked through HolidayCrowd, which earns three percent of the total cost plus VAT on each trip confirmation. “We had a very soft launch in mid-March and the response was overwhelming; within the first four hours, we received trip requests totalling
