The 100 year old Peppers Convent Retreat in the Hunter Valley has new owners. The property has been purchased by the Cowley family who own Tower Estate, Tower Lodge and Roberts Restaurant in the Hunter Valley. It will remain as part of the Peppers portfolio under a new long-term marketing service agreement.
Peppers Group General Manager Tomas Johnsson said Peppers Convent Retreat is in good hands.
“This iconic Hunter Valley property is central to the Peppers brand philosophy and we are delighted to work with the Cowley family,” said Mr Johnsson.
Tower Estate CEO Matt Cowley said Convent Retreat is a welcome addition to the family’s collection of Hunter Valley leisure assets.
“The purchase of Peppers Convent makes enormous sense for us, having acquired Roberts Restaurant and 2007 and already owning the adjacent Tower Lodge.
“There will be many synergies between these businesses and we look forward to working with Peppers Retreats to maximize the potential of the property,” said Mr Cowley.
The Cowley family assumes ownership on April 1, 2010.
Originally operating as a Brigidine nunnery, Peppers Convent was built in 1909 in Coonamble, about 600 km west of its current home in the Hunter Valley. After an extensive renovation and refurbishment, the property now offers 17 luxurious guest rooms and is located adjacent to Roberts Restaurant and Pepper Tree Wines.
