HK will have closer links with Guangdong and Macau
New policy framework for Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Macau will have a direct impact on the travel and tourism sector. The Chinese government has announced plans to enhance trilateral cooperation under the Nation’s 12th Five-Year Program (2011-2015).
Central government delegates recently told Xinhua at a forum that the government will advise the drafting and implementation of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao regional tourism plan. It will lead the development of long-term strategy in tourism cooperation, reinforce the development of barrier-free tourism districts, and work to build high-profile tourist destinations.
The programme also outlines a comprehensive transportation system plan which will connect the two semi-autonomous regions to the mainland. The ultimate goal is to oversee construction of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
There are also firm intentions to enhance air traffic cooperation in the region, improve cooperation between airline companies in China and Hong Kong and develop aviation support infrastructure.
