A new type of tourism package has been purported under the guise “Awesome Asia”. It is the brainchild of Jae Hee Jung, Professor of the Department of Tourism and English of Hallyn College in Korea, who presented the idea to delegates at the East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Forum (EATOF) in Cebu, Philippines, last week. Jung suggests that neighbouring countries in Asia clan together to offer a bolder and more impressive tour packages to coax western holidaymakers to Asia. An integrated tour package would have stronger appeal and benefit the entire region.
Illustrating his point, Jung said Cebu in the Philippines, Gangwon in South Korea and Tutorri in Japan, can together offer a winter-summer sports package where tourists can experience nine days of winter and summer sports activities in three different countries. It also offers a diverse cultural experience too. Your target market for such a package would include Australians and Europeans “who invest money in sporting activities”, he added.
Looking within the region, Jung also proposed cultural exchange programmes between Asian countries to promote intraregional travel as well.
Cebu hosted this year’s EATOF at the Cebu International Convention Center, which involved of 12 countries around East Asia. Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation reports that some 300 delegates from Gangwon in Korea, Jilin in China, Laos, Vietnam, Sarawak in Malaysia, Cambodia, Japan, Mongolia and Indonesia, attended the event.
