New York has ended Venice’s two-year reign as the British cruising public’s favourite port. A survey of consumers from You Gov by the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) showed that 19% of adults voted for the Big Apple,with Venice in second at 13%. Joint in third place were Barcelona, Rome and Singapore, with 7% each.
When deciding to take a cruise holiday, 57% of respondents said they chose cruising based on the opportunity to visit various destinations and50% liked that they only had to unpack once. In addition 36% liked the all-inclusive nature of cruises and 27% were drawn by the cuisine offered on the ship.
“The survey highlights why more cruise holidays are being taken by Brits than ever before – it’s an effortlessly way to visit many great destinations across the world while only unpacking once.” said Bill Gibbons,director of the PSA. “There’s a wide choice in the style of cruising, views that range from New York’s skyline to deserted Pacific beaches, and the inclusive nature of a cruise holiday means it is great value”.
The British public were also used which celebrities they would like to share a room with or see walk the plank. Although 55% of Brits said they would prefer to cabin share with a partner or family member rather than a celebrity (Aw – Ed.), Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston received the most votes as favoured cabin mate. However Katie Price, Jedward and James Murdoch would most likely be those made to walk the plank.
