From firework displays to street parties, NH Hotel Group has revealed its top European destinations to celebrate this New Year’s Eve.
Classical music in Prague
New Year’s Eve with Mozart at the Estates Theatre treats guests to some of the composer’s most famous arias, along with the chance to enjoy Czech delicacies, toast 2018 with the artists and dance on the theatre’s stage.
The Prague Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a concert of classical favourites at the Smetana Hall. While most cities let off fireworks on New Year’s Eve, Prague waits until New Year’s Day, when at 6pm a display will light up the skies over the gothic skyline of ‘the city of a hundred spires’.
500 metres from the nearest metro station and 20 minutes’ walk to the centre of Prague, NH Prague City has 441 rooms split across two buildings and a cable car transporting guests between the two, as well as a gym, sauna and pretty terrace bar. Prices start from £85* per night.
Party like a Lisboeta
Travellers wanting to celebrate like a Lisboeta should head to the Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodre districts, where parties often spill out on to the pavement making the most of Lisbon’s temperate climate and architectural beauty.
While glowing fireworks illuminate the skies and bells ring in the year ahead, travellers can join in local traditions, from eating 12 raisins at the stroke of midnight to choosing the colour of their underwear to represent their hopes for the New Year – blue is for good luck, green represents good health and yellow is for prosperity!
The four-star NH Collection Lisboa Liberdade has 83 rooms featuring soundproof windows and 360◦ views of the city. Guests should head to the hotel’s 11th floor Ático by NH, which offers an exclusive cocktail menu. Prices start from £110 per night.
Creative celebrations in Berlin
Stretching almost 2km along Straße des 17. Juni, the NYE celebrations between Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column feature live music performances, DJ sets, light and laser shows and food and drink stalls, making it the must-go New Year’s Eve destination for almost 1 million people each year.
From just €89, partygoers can dance the night away in eight different venues, including the rooftop of the ewerk Berlin and the Kino International film theatre.
nhow Berlin, carrying the signature look of designer Karim Rashid, is Europe’s first music hotel and has a 450sqm spa oasis, a Rock ‘N Roll menu at its restaurant and free instrument room service, which sees the hotel deliver guitars, keyboards and DJ equipment to guests’ rooms. Rooms start at £87 per night.
