Nordic boom to hit Thai resort towns

Scandinavian investors are expected to invest up to Bt16.2 billion (US$514 million) in residential developments in Thailand this year and the next, according to research by Colliers International (Thailand).
The Nation daily said the would flow into tourist destinations such as Rayong, Hua Hin, Koh Samui and Phuket. Investments are being led by the Swedes, followed by Finns.
According to the report, the main residential projects developed by Scandinavian investors include villas, resorts and condominiums at tourist hotspots.
According to the research, the buyers from Scandinavia were interested in owning a second home or a property for vacations in Thailand.
According the Tourism Authority of Thailand, of the 14.5 million tourist arrivals last year, five percent were from Scandinavian countries. That number was a 17.4% spurt from the previous year.
