North Korea opens to UK travellers
UK tourists travelling to North Korea are experiencing more freedom of movement and increasingly relaxed attitudes, according to a leading UK tour operator, The Times reported. Carl Meadows, tour manager for Regent Holidays was quoted saying that he had noticed tensions in North Korea easing in recent years.
“Even three years ago you were very restricted about where you could go without a guide: you wouldn’t be able to get three feet away from them. But I visited last September and they were not keeping such a watchful eye” Meadows was quoted saying.
Regent Holidays is one of three UK tour operators operating to North Korea, along with Bales and Explore, and this year expects to send 150 tourists to the country.
Approximately 150,000 Western tourists visit North Korea each year, the report said.
