Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has invested in the installation of new technology to reduce its ships’ emissions.
The company has decided to install 28 of Green Tech Marine’s eco-friendly ‘scrubbers’ on six of its ships. The systems, which are being equipped on the Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Sun vessels between now and 2016, are designed to reduce the amount of harmful emissions and noise produced by a ship.
“We remain committed to environmental protection at Norwegian Cruise Line,” said Kevin Sheehan, NCL’s CEO. “Therefore, it is important for us to invest in new technologies, such as Green Tech’s innovative scrubber systems, in order to reduce fuel emissions, overall energy consumption, and the company’s environmental footprint.”
Green Tech’s new scrubber systems will replace the current silencers on all six Norwegian vessels.
“We are very pleased to have Norwegian Cruise Line as a returning customer,” said Green Tech’s CEO, Peter Strandberg. “The decision to install scrubber systems on six additional ships demonstrates Norwegian Cruise Line’s commitment to environmental regulations and reaffirms that Green Tech Marine’s scrubbers have taken a strong position in the exhaust gas cleaning market.”
