The best of Oman’s artists and designers have now been announced as winners of the Oman Air amenity kit competition.
Three winning designs have been selected, from the entries from local Omani designers; all three kits will be produced and will be available on Oman Air flights in 2017.
The design produced by Ahlam Hamad Al Mahrouqi obtained the first place, whereas Issa Saleh Al Sabagh’s design won the second place, and the design of Jokha Abdullah Al Barwani was awarded the third place.
Invitations to enter were issued back in March to Omani craftsmen registered with the Public Authority of Handicrafts, members of Sidab Women’s Group and Omani members of the Omani Society for Fine Arts, which is affiliated with the Diwan of Royal Court. The brief was to design an amenity kit which would offer customers an ideal selection of amenities within a bag or box which expresses the very best of Omani culture and innovation.
Oman Air’s Executive Vice President – Products and Brand Development, Abdulaziz Al Raisi said: “We are the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman and as such our history and heritage is incredibly important to us. The amenity kits not only play an important part in the passenger experience but we also wanted them to showcase Omani craftsmanship and innovation. The three winning designs are not only innovative but also will be incredibly practical and are premium examples of Omani design.”
The new designs have a lot to live up to, as both Oman Air’s First Class and Business Class kits have won numerous awards, including Gold and Silver accolades at the prestigious TravelPlus Airline Amenity Bag Awards in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Al Raisi continued: “For a long time Oman Air has demonstrated its commitment to working with and supporting local businesses; for many years they have partnered with Omani perfumier Amouage to include a range of toiletries in the amenity kit. The design competition was seen as a way to extend this support to lesser known local designers.”
The development of new amenity kits complements Oman Air’s current ambitious programme of fleet and network expansion and service developments. It is hoped the new designs will further enhance the inflight experience, helping the airline to offer the very best service in the sky and continue to exceed customer expectations.
