Muscat’s Port Sultan Qaboos’ witnessed a 72% year-on-year increase in the number of cruise ships and tourists docking at the port during the 2010-11 cruising season, the Omani Ministry of Tourism has revealed. The Ministry found that 94 cruise ships visited Muscat and the number of passenger arrivals reached 231,100. Salem Al Mamari, director general of Tourism Promotion, Ministry of Tourism, Sultanate of Oman said: “The results are pleasing especially considering that passenger arrivals to Muscat in 2007 were just 44,885. Oman is being preferred as a cruise destination with many companies now including Muscat in their world itineraries. Musandam, Salalah and Khasab are emerging cruise destinations as they are also distinctive in their own right.”
