The Sultanate of Oman launched an Indian roadshow in Bengaluru this week to engage travel partners and claim a stake in India’s burgeoning outbound travel market.
Director General of Tourism Promotion Salim Bin AdeyAI-Mamari told reporters that 650,000 tourists from India visited Oman in 2010 and to attract more tourists the roadshow ‘My Country’ would be held in Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi.
India, along with Europe, already sends most of the country’s 1.7 million tourists a year and while arrivals figures are at 7% growth, the Tourism Department hopes to achieve this figure in the Indian market alone over the coming years. Bin AdeyAI-Mamari told UNI; ”Our aim is to see that India occupies number one position within four to six years from the present position of six.”
He said the department would soon come out with special package for Indian tourists and to attract corporate sector travellers a Convention Centre would be constructed by investing US$1.4 billion (INR63 crore).
More than 700,000 Indians are currently in Oman working in various professions and they usually travel more than once in a year, so the Diaspora, as always, provides a lucrative source of revenue to the travel industry.
