Oman Ministry of Tourism Director of International Offices, Razan Darwish, has roundly applauded last week’s signing of an Open Skies Agreement (OSA) between Singapore and Oman.
Ms Darwish, attending AIME Expo in Melbourne this week, said the signing of the OSA represented a major boost for the Middle Eastern destination and would undoubtedly accelerate steadily growing international visitor numbers - particularly from Australia and New Zealand.
The OSA allows Singapore carriers to operate any number flights between their home port and points in Oman and beyond, to any other city in the world. Likewise, Oman carriers can now operate any number of flights to and beyond Singapore.
Singapore now holds similar agreements with four other countries located in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE, all of which are linked directly to Oman’s Muscat International Airport.
Ms Darwish said that the new agreement provided a perfect opportunity for the destination.
“This is in keeping with the Ministry of Tourism’s ongoing strategy to position the country as a new and exciting stopover destination for Australians and New Zealanders en route to the UK/Europe via those Singapore carriers offering direct services via Oman,” she said.
