Oman to showcase MICE offerings at GIBTM

The Sultanate of Oman’s Ministry of Tourism is showcasing the county’s MICE attractions at GIBTM 2011, which kicks off at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) today. Representatives of the Ministry of Tourism will be participating in the various sessions of the exhibition, while Ministry officials will be attending a number of pre-arranged meetings with various MICE travel suppliers and other key industry players.Salem Al Mamari, Director General of Tourism Promotion, Oman Ministry of Tourism, said: “GIBTM 2011 provides an attractive opportunity for us to identify key trends, explore best practices and conduct networking activities to promote Oman’s unique attractions as a business travel destination. We have prepared extensively for this event, and developed a comprehensive presentation of Oman’s extensive range of corporate travel offerings. We are confident that we will make a strong impression among the various global business organisations that are attending the show.”GIBTM 2011 is expected to attract more than 2000 professionals from the conference, events and meetings industry in the Middle East across a range of industries. Oman’s Ministry of Tourism aims to claim a big slice of the region’s lucrative meetings, with the establishment of the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. Located four kilometres from Muscat International Airport, the two-million-square-metre venue features a 10,000-seat auditorium and four hotels offering a total of 1,000 rooms. It also features traditional Omani architecture and consists of banqueting halls, a mall, a meeting hall for 3,000 people, an exhibition area, 200 serviced apartments and parking for 5,500 vehicles. The Ministry of Tourism also plans to showcase hospitality highlights including the new Swiss-Belhotel Resort Masirah Island, the 5-star Salalah Marriott Resort and the luxurious Six Senses Hideaway Zighy Bay located in the country’s northern Musandam Peninsula.
