The aim is for mainland tourists, under the Individual Visit Scheme, to travel to both places in one trip, according to Hong Kong Tourism Board chairman James Tien Pei-chun.
Hong Kong and Macau are not competitors but partners in tourism promotion, Tien was quoted saying in The Standard, after meeting with Macau Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau-wah and Macau tourism officials.
For the short-haul markets, the tourism boards of Macau and Hong Kong will jointly launch a brand new multi-destination package themed around world heritage. The package will cover attractions such as the Historic Centre of Macau, an attraction under the UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites, the Diaolou clusters in Kaiping, Guangdong, and the Hung Shing Temple in Kau Sai Chau, Hong Kong.
