The One&Only brand is using Arabian Travel Market (ATM) as a platform to promote its new Palm Dubai property, opening on 10 October this year. While other UAE hotels have been delayed due to the financial crisis, Michael Payne, General Manager of the One&Only Palm Dubai, told Travel Daily the property had finalised its soft opening launch date.He said the hotel, which boasts a range of rooms, suites and villas, a fitness centre, spa and 47m pool, will be particularly popular with UK and European visitors in the winter months.Following the economic crash in Dubai, concerns have been raised that an oversupply of hotel rooms will cause further damage to the city’s hospitality industry. However, Payne is convinced the new property will be a success due to its ‘unique edge’. “It’s a low rise boutique hotel. It has a real island feel getaway with swift access to Dubai which makes it different to other hotels already on the market. It only takes five minutes to get on the mainland,” he said. Payne said the soft opening would be kept low key: “We’re having a soft opening in October; we want to make sure that in November all minor teething problems have already been taken care of in time or high season.” At present, some 80% of One&Only’s UK business is done through tour operators and Payne said he expected this trend to continue with the launch of the Palm property. “Over in the UK customers are keen on booking everything through the tour operator to make sure we get everything included such as flights and transfers. They can organise it as a proper package,” he said.
