The oneworld alliance has launched a new online training scheme for travel agents.
oneworld Academy will offer a range of e-learning tools to train travel agents across the world in various aspects of the alliance and its products. Available at travelagent.oneworld.com, the programme has initially been launched in English, but more language options – including simplified Chinese, Japanese and Spanish – will be added soon.
Its first module focuses on oneworld’s consumer fare products, with an emphasis on its ‘oneworld Explorer’ round-the-world fares. Travel agents signing up to the 30-minute module can learn more about the alliance’s range of multi-country fares, including the keyboard commands needed to book them through six global distribution systems (GDS).
Agents completing the module will receive a certificate proclaiming them a “oneworld Explorer round-the-world specialist”.
“There’s quite a wide-spread myth that round-the-world fares are complicated products to sell and book. The oneworld Academy will take the mystery out of the process by showing how quick, easy and simple oneworld Explorer and our other fares are to sell and how they can be a valuable tool for travel agents to meet their customers’ needs,” said oneworld’s director of sales, José María Alvarado.
Oneworld currently includes 12 airlines, including British Airways and American Airlines and four Asia Pacific carriers – Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines and Qantas. SriLankan Airlines and Qatar Airways are also set to join in the coming months.
