Boeing and Airbus are battling it out to secure a US $5 billion order from flydubai, according to the Dubai-based low cost carrier (LCC) CEO.
Flydubai currently operates 30 Boeing 737s, but is mulling two new models, the updated Boeing 737 Max and the Airbus A320 neo.
“Both aircraft appeal to us. The best decision is the one that costs us the least,” Al Ghaith asserted.
He added he expected a decision to be made by November and it was possible that the carrier would issue a sukuk or Islamic bond to fund the purchase.
Despite this, Al Ghaith said the company was more than capable of paying for the 50 aircraft with its own cash reserves.
