The aviation authorities in Macau and Taiwan have signed a new Air Services Agreement (ASA), offering unlimited capacity on routes between the two territories.
The new deal, which has signed on 17 February 2014, will allow airlines from both sides to operate any number of scheduled flights between Macau and Taiwan’s two biggest cities, Taipei and Kaohsiung, as well as charter flights between Macau and Taichung, Hualien, Taitung, Magung, Kinmen, Tainan and Kiayi.
According to the agreement, airlines can operate the services based on customer demand, free of capacity controls in terms of frequency and aircraft type. They are also allowed to collaborate through codesharing arrangements.
Taiwan’s EVA Air currently operates 40 flights a week to Macau while TransAsia Airways serves the Chinese gaming hub 35 times a week. In return, Air Macau operates 35 flights per week to Taiwan.
