Outrigger Resorts has made its debut in the Maldives with the launch of a new luxury private island resort.
Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort welcomed its first guests on 1 August – a family from Dubai who were transported to the island by speed boat transfer from Kaadedhdhoo Airport. They were welcomed at the resort’s jetty by Darren Edmonstone, Outrigger’s managing director for Asia Pacific, and the resort’s general manager, Pascal Billon.
“Outrigger hosts and supporting contractors in the Maldives have done a terrific job in the run up to our opening today,” said Edmonstone. “I’m confident our large and wonderfully well-appointed Beach and Ocean Pool Villas will become a major talking point in the Maldivian tourism scene.”
The 53-villa property comprises 24 Beach Pool Villas (211m²), seven Two-Bedroom Pool Villas (282m²), 21 Ocean Pool Villas (225m²) and the Presidential Villa (600m²). Other facilities include a range of restaurants and bars, a marine education centre, spa and retail outlets.
The seas off the Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort include a coral reef which is home to a variety of marine life, including turtles, rays and regular sightings of dolphins.
“We have very special dining, water sports and excursion options ready for all our guests, no matter where they come from,” said Billon. “The Outrigger on Konotta Island is shaping up to be a perfect holiday destination for a wide variety of international guests who are seeking an iconic Maldives holiday.”
On day two of opening, the Outrigger welcomed guests from China, Korea and the USA.
Since embarking on its Asia Pacific expansion plan in 2008, Hawaii-based Outrigger has grown its presence to Phuket, Phi Phi Island, Fiji, Guam, Mauritius and now the Maldives, with new properties in China and Vietnam in the pipeline.
