Over 150 dead in Xinjiang violence

Violence in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur AutonomousRegion has left at least 156 people dead and more than 800 people injured, theBBC has reported. Violence erupted in the city of Urumqion Sunday and reported spread to the city of Kashgar yesterday. According to a BBCreporter, Urumqiis currently under curfew, with streets deserted.
China hasblamed separatist Uyghurs for orchestrating attacks on majority ethnic HanChinese, while Uyghur groups claimed that police fired on protesters. 1,434 people have been arrested in connectionwith the violence.
