Pacific Airlines has started a service between Ho Chi Minh City and Hue over the weekend in response to increasing demand. The first local low-cost carrier operates the 168-seat Boeing 737-400 for the daily flights departing from HCMC at 7 a.m. and from Hue at 8:50 a.m.
Pacific chairman Pham Vu Hien was quoted by Saigon Times as saying that the Hue route follows the launch of daily flights to the central coast city of Nha Trang more than three months ago.
Hien was quoted saying that Pacific was ready to double the daily frequency to Hue on January 25 to cater to rising demand, especially from the year-end to Lunar New Year, or Tet.
Pacific will begin flying to the northern port city of Haiphong in the next three weeks. It will launch the inaugural Hue-Hanoi route in July, the paper said.
“We help build connectivity between the World Heritage Site with Vietnam’s capital and HCMC, and believe in our contribution to bringing more guests from the two cities and overseas to Hue,” Hien was quoted saying.
Earlier this year, Pacific clinched agreements for codeshare flights from HCMC to Bangkok with Bangkok Airways and to Singapore with Jetstar Asia.
Pacific Chief Executive Officer Luong Hoai Nam was quoted saying that the airline would lease 10 more aircraft for delivery next year and 2009 to support the expansion plan.
