Complaints over increased holiday prices during the school holidays have reached a petition to Parliament to debate the issue.
More than 139,000 people have already signed a petition calling for an end to travel companies hiking up holiday prices during school holiday periods and instead put a cap on the percentage increase on costs.
New rules in September mean schools must fine parents for each day they take children out of school.
Online petitions need 100,000 signatures before they will be considered for debate in the House of Commons, with recent complaints on Facebook driving more traffic to the ‘Stop Holiday companies charging extra in school holidays’ petition.
A Facebook group named ‘Holiday Price Increase’ has promoted the page further, with its description saying: “Parents alike I am sure do not want to take their children out of the school term but if they want to take the family away have no option as it is far cheaper – I think most parents agree and prefer to take children away during the set school holiday period.”
ABTA told the BBC prices go up due to supply and demand but have suggested that school holidays are staggered.
