Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) handled 3.9 million passengers in March, down 7.9% from the same month last year. Air traffic movements contracted by 7.5% to 23,805 year-on-year.
The first quarter as a whole saw a 7.1% reduction in passenger traffic, to 11.3 million. Air traffic movements slid 6.6% to 69,285.
Much of the downturn however has been attributed to the fact that the Easter holiday period fell in April this year, rather than March in 2008. This is thought to have affected Hong Kong resident passenger traffic, which fell 15% last month.
