PATA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chengdu Culture & Tourism Development Group (CCTDG). The deal, sealed today at the PATA Travel Mart in New Delhi, will see the two organisations work together in areas of executive training, data sharing, and the development of destination marketing strategies for the city of Chengdu and Sichuan province. Signing the deal in the presence of media earlier today, PATA’s interim CEO, Bill Calderwood, said the deal would help the Chinese city boost its tourism arrivals.
“Chengdu is currently building strong links to Asian markets and developing air routes to key Asian markets,” Calderwood said. “The MoU will help develop marketing strategies to attract more visitors to Chengdu and Sichuan province.”
The MoU is the latest in a series of joint projects between PATA and Sichuan province. After the earthquake that devastated the western Chinese province in 2008, PATA held tourism recovery workshops in the region, and then in 2009 it conducted a research project to help develop tourism to Sichuan from key tourism markets.
Calderwood sealed the MoU at Pragati Maidan with Yin Jianhuan, President of CCTDG, Dai Zhen, Vice General Manager of CCTDG and Kate Chang, PATA’s Director for China.
