Hotels in the four major cities of the Pearl River Delta saw double-digit gains in terms of revenue per available room (revPAR), when measured in US dollars, in May 2011. According to data from STR Global, provided exclusively to Travel Daily, hotels in Guangzhou led the way with a 35.8% jump in revPAR last month, averaging US$90. Hong Kong’s revPAR surged 31.3% to US$187, while hotels in neighbouring Shenzhen saw a strong 24.4% rise in revPAR, to US$82. The gaming hub of Macau saw a 13.0% rise in revPAR, which averaged US$154.
While all four cities experienced increasing occupancy levels during the month, the performance was dominated by strong rises in terms of average daily rates (ADR). Hong Kong (+28.9% to US$234), Guangzhou (+20.1% to US$134) and Shenzhen (+18.5% to US$124) all reported double-digit ADR gains in May 2011.
