Westralia Airports Corporation (WAC), the owner and operator of Perth Airport, has announced that construction of the airport’s new AU$120 million (US$126 million) domestic terminal will start this month. The new terminal will feature a check-in hall with 16 counters and space for self-service check-in and bag drop, a large central passenger security screening zone, 14 aircraft gates with covered walkways, three baggage reclaim belts, as well parking and taxi and bus terminals.
Perth Airport’s Chief Executive Officer, Brad Geatches said; “Over the next three years, we are investing AU$700 million to expand Perth Airport and represents the first stage towards achieving our vision to have all commercial air services operating from one location. We are excited to be commencing construction of the new terminal.”
Construction of the new domestic terminal will commence in August, and is due to be completed in December 2012. Skywest, Alliance Airlines, Strategic and Tiger Airways will relocate to the new terminal in early 2013.
