Philippine Airlines will launch a new direct flight between Manila and Pacific island of Saipan this week.
The new twice weekly services get underway on 15 June and are being targeted at the large population of Filipinos living in Saipan.
“Over the past decades, our kababayans (Filipinos living overseas) have to take other routes to Manila, via Guam. With this new offering, they now have a direct link to our home country,” said Philippine Airlines’ president & chief operating officer, Jaime J. Bautista.
He added that forward bookings are “proof that this new flight is keenly awaited”.
The new service will depart Manila every Wednesday and Sunday at 2120 and arrive in Saipan at 0335. The return flights will then every Thursday and Monday at 0435 and arrive back in the Philippine capital at 0645. Philippine Airlines will deploy a 166-seat, two-class Airbus A320 on the route.
Filipinos make up approximately 36% of Saipan’s population.
