The Samal Casino Resort in the southern Philippines is set to reopen after nine years, Bernama has reported. Ekran Bhd is set to invest an estimated US$15-20 million to reopen the resort, which closed in 2000 during the Asian financial crisis. Set over 250 hectares, the casino resort is about 30 minutes by boat Davao City, Mindanao’s main economic hub. Ekran Bhd officials were also reported saying that they are also working to revive the Davao-Kota Kinabalu air link in partnership with Malaysia Airlines.
