The Philippines has set a target of achieving 6.3 million international arrivals by 2016, generating US$4.5 billion in revenues. TD’s Anil Mathur reported from the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) in Cambodia last week that Benito Bengzon, Assistant Secretary of the country’s International Tourism Promotions, told delegates that he expects to see a surge in arrivals from India when Philippine Airlines launches direct flights to Delhi later this year, while China, Japan and South Korea are also expected to grow as source markets. The Philippines attracted 3.3 million arrivals in 2010, and expects that figure to expand to 3.7 million this year.
