Authorities in Phnom Penh are planning to build a replica of the famous Arc de Triomphe.
According to a Phnom Penh Post report, the Parisian landmark will form part of a major new US$150 million development in the Koh Pich area of the city, also including 266 French-style apartments and a main street called The Elysee, named after the famous Champs Elysee in Paris.
The report quoted the Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation, which is developing the complex, as saying that the apartments and retail area would be targeted at “well-off” Cambodians and expats.
The new development won’t be Southeast Asia’s first Arc de Triomphe however; the Patuxai Arch in Laos’ capital Vientiane is also modelled on the famous French landmark.
