In a recent development, Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has announced its intent to start direct flights to Salalah.
The airline is awaiting government approvals which are expected in 2015 itself. “PIA is focusing on Salalah and wishes to start direct flights from there as soon as it is able to strengthen its fleet. We are looking to add flights to and from Salalah from Karachi, Islamabad and, if possible, Sialkot too,” Shahzad Paracha, country manager Oman, PIA was quoted in Times of Oman.
When questioned about how PIA was going to benefit from other expatriate communities in Salalah, Paracha said: “Salalah has a huge presence of Bangladeshis and Indians and we get the overflow since we operate to Dhaka and Indian cities too.”
Dhaka was a successful destination for PIA and the airline was keen to increase frequency of flights to the Bangladeshi capital. Commenting on the future plans, Paracha also mentioned that PIA was planning to start direct flights from Muscat to Multan soon. It was also keen to increase the frequency of flights to Islamabad, taking the number to four in a week from existing two, in the near future.
