Maldivian President-elect, Mohamed Nasheed, says he wants to buy a new homeland for his people, the BBC reported. Nasheed is concerned that rising sea-levels may engulf the island chain - officially the world’s lowest-lying country.
The report said that he wants somewhere within the region, where the culture is similar – possibly India or Sri Lanka - to house his population of 300,000 should the Maldives be submerged.
