P&O Ventura undergoes emergency work

Carnival Corp subsidiary P&O Cruises has had to make emergency work to its 3,190-passenger P&O Ventura. 

The ship, which is understood to have sustained damage to one of the upper decks when sailing through the Bay of Biscay, has had passengers describing a two-inch crack appearing which ran the entire length of the deck.

An inspector from the Maritime and Coastguard agency has been on board and confirmed that the crack raised no structural issues however the area was sectioned off and passengers with balconies on deck 14 were told not to use them. 

A statement from a company spokesperson read: “Repairs will be made to an aluminium deck on Ventura upon arrival in Southampton today. This has no structural strength or safety implications. 

“Ventura will leave Southampton later today as planned for a two night cruise.”
