Recent statistics state that the Middle East and Africa region leads in superyacht demand, with more than half of the region’s ultra-high net worth individuals (UHNWI) likely to own or buy a superyacht.
These details were released by the Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss).
Tapping on this growing trend, the 23rd edition of Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS) will take place from 3-7 March 2015.
“The propensity to buy a superyacht among UHNWIs in the Middle East and Africa has increased to 51%, from 48% last year. This means that more than half the UHNWIs in the region are likely to own or buy a superyacht – the highest proportion in the world,” said Robert van Tol, operational director, Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss).
The market is continuing to see a growth in size of superyachts under construction. According to Showboats International’s 2015 Global Order Book, orders have increased by 25% over 2014 for yachts larger than 250 feet in length.
Delving further, Dubai’s importance to the superyacht industry has also been underlined with UAE’s Gulf Craft announcement to invest US$100 million in a new shipyard located in Dubai Maritime City. Al Shaali Marine will also unveil its new US$5.45 m AS100 superyacht model.
