PressReader, the publishing app for international newspapers and magazines, has sealed a major partnership that will make many of China’s top publications available to travellers.
The new agreement with the China International Book Trading Corporation (CIBTC), a subsidiary of the China International Publishing Group (CIPG), will see Chinese language newspapers and magazines rolled out to more than 300 million PressReader users and subscribers, ensuring that the world’s largest outbound travel market now has access to content in its own language.
Many hotel groups, restaurants, airlines, cruise lines and other companies currently provide the PressReader app to their customers.
PressReader’s chief content officer, Nikolay Malyarov, said this agreement had been “several years in the making”.
“We’re thrilled to play such a major role in bringing Chinese content to the world. China’s international influence continues to grow, and this partnership will help readers everywhere to gain a more informed, balanced view on all things Chinese,” he commented.
Available on iOS, Android, BlackBerry and Windows devices, PressReader provides digital versions of thousands of newspapers and magazine. And the company said it is “excited about the impact this partnership”.
“Some 50 million Chinese nationals live abroad, and more than 100 million Chinese nationals travel internationally each year. They will now be able to enjoy up-to-date access to complete versions of their favourite Chinese publications, regardless of where they are in the world,” the company said.
It also noted that with PressReader’s ‘Instant Translation’ service for some titles, this content will also be accessible for those people who don’t read Chinese.
“The largest linguistic group in the world now has access to their favourite content through our global business partners, making PressReader a must-have for any organisation that serves Chinese-speaking clientele,” said PressReader’s chief commercial officer, Igor Smirnoff.
