Qantas has finalised a contract with Airbus for 110 A320 Family aircraft. The firm order for 78 A320neo and 32 A320s is the largest single order in Australian aviation history by number of units, and follows a deal initially signed by the two companies in August. The new aircraft will help with the formation of Jetstar Japan, the new low-cost carrier being formed by Qantas and Japan Airlines (JAL), as well as the launch of Qantas’ proposed Asian full-service airline. “The Airbus A320 will be the launch aircraft for Qantas’ new, premium airline based in Asia and will support Jetstar’s expansion plans – including the establishment of Jetstar Japan,” confirmed Qantas CEO, Alan Joyce.
