Qantas has been hit by another strike today. An estimated 8,500 passengers are expected to be affected by Friday’s industrial action, which saw members of the Transport Workers’ Union (TWU) down tools for one hour from 8am this morning.
Qantas said yesterday that it would be forced to delay 39 flights by up to an hour and cancel another two flights. The airline’s website showed this morning that two services had been cancelled – flight QF419 from Sydney to Melbourne and QF450 from Melbourne to Sydney. Nine other domestic services were listed as being delayed, along with five international flights connecting to Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Johannesburg and Shanghai.
The strike action comes on a busy weekend for Australia. Thousands of sports fans will be travelling to the AFL and NRL Grand Finals, and many families heading away for the school holidays.
