Qantas has commenced direct flights from Sydney to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) today. Operated by a Boeing 747 aircraft, flight QF7 departed Sydney Airport at 1.25pm local time on Monday, and is scheduled to arrive at DFW at 1.50pm local time, also today.
The first inbound service, QF8, will depart DFW at 10pm local time, arriving in Brisbane at 5pm on 18 May, and flying onwards to Sydney before landing at 8.05am. Flying time from Sydney to DFW is 15 hours 25 minutes, and flying time from DFW to Brisbane is 16 hours.
DFW is Qantas’ first new international destination since Buenos Aires in 2008. The service will initially operate four times per week, with a view to increasing the frequency in future. Through its codeshare partnership with American Airlines, Qantas will offer services to 54 destinations in the US, Canada and Mexico beyond DFW, including Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, New Orleans, New York, Washington, Toronto, Vancouver, Cancun and Mexico City.
Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Alan Joyce, said; “This new service takes Qantas customers into the heart of the United States, with a wide range of options for onward travel. Dallas and Fort Worth are attractive destinations in their own right, combining rapid economic growth with Texas’ rich heritage.
“However, what sets DFW apart are the connections its world-class airport provides to other major cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. This makes it the perfect platform for Qantas to develop its relationship with our oneworld partner American Airlines, beginning with a significant expansion of codesharing to capitalise on DFW’s hub location.
“There is also great potential to develop inbound tourism to Australia, particularly in Queensland and NSW. The launch of a new route is always an exciting occasion and we couldn’t be more pleased to be touching down in DFW today,” Joyce added.
