Qantas profits surge despite A380 groundings

Qantas has reported a 56% jump in pre-tax profits for the six months ending 31 December 2010, despite taking a AU$55 million (US$54.9 million) H1 hit following the grounding of its Airbus A380 fleet towards the end of the year. Qantas CEO, Alan Joyce, said the figure didn’t include the cost of repair of the damaged aircraft and engines, estimated to be at least US$100 million, which is covered by insurance or maintenance contracts with Rolls-Royce. The airline’s half-year revenue climbed 10% to AU$7.6 billion.
