Tourism authorities in the coastal city of Qingdao, in China’s Shandong province, have signed a new partnership deal with the city of Richmond, which lies close to Vancouver on Canada’s Pacific coast. The agreement, penned between the Qingdao Tourism Administration (QTA) and Tourism Richmond, comes three years after the two cities entered into a friendship agreement, and is intended to connect Canada-based travel agencies and tour operators with partners in China, to help them sell Qingdao as a tourism destination.
“Qingdao is such a beautiful city with a lot of tourism resources… however the reputation abroad is limited to Qingdao beer, but not for the tourism products,” Xinhua reported the QTA’s Director, Wang Jian Gong, as saying. “We’d like to popularise the Qingdao tourism reputation,” he added.Last year, Canada was added to China’s list approved destinations.
