One of them, Howard Johnson ITC Plaza Chongqing, said it has seen a stream of cancellations over the next few weeks for group business.
“This has affected many of the international hotel brands in Chongqing,” said Carolina Li, the hotel’s Director of Sales and Marketing.
Lee said Chongqing was not affected by the quake and that wanted to highlight that it was safe.
The hotel hosted the 2nd Annual IAACA (International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities) Conference last week which saw attendance from 60 countries.
“Please don’t cancel your visit to our wonderful city. Please support our city and its people,” she said in her appeal.
Association lends a hand: The Sichuan Travel Association has issued a proposal to its members and provincial travel associations across China to lend a hand to the earthquake area.
An STA proposal for free rooms be provided to family members of tourists who died in the earthquake has bene taken up.
Some 27 hotels in Sichuan are now providing about 270 rooms free of charge each night for those unfortunate family members.
Hanting helps: Hanting Hotels Group is donating the income from its membership cards to Red Cross Society of China to help the victims of the earthquake.
The group has also helped to transfer guests form its hotels in Chengdu to safe places and offered free food to them.
