Queen Alia Airport reports 9.3% hike in September traffic

Queen Alia International airport (QAIA) in Amman, Jordan, witnessed a 9.3% in traffic to 774,306 passengers during September 2016, according to the Airport International Group.
The airport’s top five routes during the month were Dubai, Jeddah, Kuwait, Cairo and Riyadh. During September, QAIA registered a 2% year-on-year climb in aircraft movements (ACM); receiving 6,929 ACM as opposed to last year’s 6,796 ACM. Conversely, the airport witnessed a notable 14.7% drop in cargo traffic, handling 7,083 tons of cargo throughout the month set against the 8,308 tons handled in September 2015.
At the end of September, the airport had welcomed a total of 5,850,651 passengers in 2016, a 5.7% year-to-date (YTD) increase compared to the same period last year. Similarly, QAIA has registered 56,923 ACM and 75,287 tons of handled cargo so far this year, driving YTD increases of 4.2% and 2.3% respectively.
The top five routes contributing to positive traffic change (growth) in September were
Antalya, Sabiha Gocken, Dubai (Dubai World Central), Ankara and Kuwait respectively.
The top five carriers contributing to positive traffic change were Fly Jordan, Jordan Aviation, Emirates, Air Arabia Jordan and Etihad Airways respectively, said Airport International Group.
