SINGAPORE’s tourism industry is set to boom during next year’s F1 Grand Prix, where tickets could be as low as S$40.
Compared to other F1 races in Asia, which can be more expensive, a 3 day pass will cost between S$44 and S$1391.
Organisers target over 100,000 tourists, with 60% based locally and an international influx of 40,000.The organisers of the Singapore Grand Prix are likely to reserve between 10,000 to 15,000 tickets for VIPs, leaving a balance of 65,000 tickets for local enthusiasts.
Possible seating arrangements will be the Padang, Esplanade Drive, Raffles Avenue, Marina Promenade Park and along the Marina Channel with a permanent seating stand at the start/finish line.
Two main concerns faced by organisers are fitting the audience seats in between the trees and limiting public vantage points to reduce the likelihood of people watching the race for free.
Some of the public vantage points include Pan Pacific, Marina Mandarin, Marina Square, The Ritz Carlton and the Fullerton Singapore.
It is believed the tourism industry will be make more than S$100 million from the race. The hotel industry will reap the most benefits with some hoteliers expected to double or triple their room rates, although the government will impose a special cess on revenues at a maximum of 30% for the duration of the race period.
The Singapore Tourism Board is currently advising the Singapore Hotel Association on how else they can support the event.
