Rain has helped improve air quality in much of the haze-shrouded north of Thailand, the Bangkok Post reported. Before the rains, the haze alert was raised to danger level in parts of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.
However, a Chiang Mai environmental official was quoted saying that forest fires were still burning at 10 spots in Mae Chaem and Omkoi districts.
The fires, which contributed much to the haze, were being tackled, he was quoted saying. The report said atificial rain-making was also under way to put out forest fires in some districts.
”There have been fewer forest fires than in previous years, but parts of the province are still shrouded by haze,” Mae Hong Son deputy governor Wanchai Suthiworachai was quoted saying.
