Keen to expand on its portfolio of authentic US ranches, Ranch Rider will introduce Arizona’s Hideout Working Ranch in its 2017 brochure, the property situated near Portal close to the New Mexico border.
Tony Daly, MD of Ranch Rider commented: “The majority of our clients are in search of a genuine cowboy experience – authentic travel a key driver of bookings. At this ranch it’s all about the cattle and horses, but the property is also strategically located on a treasure trove of Wild West history. Guests will feel as though they are riding through an open air museum, many of these mountain trails and high desert paths not covered by any other ranch in Southeastern Arizona.”
The list of historical places visited on horseback includes Skeleton Canyon where Geronimo surrendered, Fort Bowie where the US army forged battles against the Apache Indians, and the Cochise stronghold, once the summer home of the Chiricahua Apaches. Still sacred to the Native American tribe, Cochise is said to be buried in the exact same location.
“Several trails were once well known to legendary Wild West figures including Wyatt Earp, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and more, and the ranch’s proximity to Tombstone and Silver City in New Mexico is a win-win with clients who want to step back in time and indulge in this fascinating era,” said Daly.
Home to 400 head of pure bred Black Angus & Texas Longhorn cattle, guests can also work the herd. In keeping with the time period, each new generation of calves is named after a theme, for example civil war battles. The current calf crop honours characters from the sweeping Western epic Lonesome Dove and other cowboy classics.
“Popular with British travellers, the UK is the second biggest long-haul market for the US and its second highest spender,” said Daly. “While it is perhaps still too early to say what the effect of Brexit might be on 2017 bookings, ranch holidays as a whole will always be perceived as offering value for money. With all of your accommodation, meals and the majority of activities, including riding, covered in the price of the stay, clients are able to factor in all of the costs – making them especially attractive to families and 3G travellers who need to stick to a pre-arranged budget and participate in a wide range of pursuits. From that perspective, we might well see clients opting to extend their stay on the ranch for longer than the usual seven nights and booking shorter self-drives in the states they are visiting.”
Ranch Rider is scheduled to release its 2017 brochure in late November.
