Rare clouded leopards born at Singapore Night Safari
Singapore Night Safari is celebrating the arrival of three clouded leopard cubs.
The cubs arrived last month, becoming the second litter of clouded leopards to be born at the attraction.
The births are the result of a planned breeding programme, following the arrival of mating pair of clouded leopards from a zoo in Thailand three years ago.
“We are very pleased that our efforts have paid off once again with the birth of this second litter. For a species of big cat facing many threats, every little kitten counts. We hope that this birth will go towards sustaining and increasing the population of clouded leopards both in captivity and in the wild,” said Subash Chandran, Assistant Director of Zoology for Singapore Night Safari.
Due to their reclusive nature, accurate figures on the wild population are hard to gauge, but experts believe that fewer than 10,000 individuals are left in the wild.
