A record 5.14 million Taiwan tourists visited mainland China in 2010, up 14.6% year-on-year, the Cross-Straits Tourism Exchange Association (CTEA) has revealed. The figure marks the first time the number of Taiwanese cross-Strait tourists has exceeded five million in a single year. China generated US$5.74 billion in tourism revenues from Taiwanese visitors last year, up 16.5% year-on-year, with each visitor spending an average of just over US$1,100 per person per stay. A greater number of flight services, as well as major events such as the World Expo in Shanghai and the Asian Games in Guangzhou, are believed to have contributed to the record result.
