Tourist arrivals in Taiwan are expected to hit 4.2 million by the end of the year, approximately 10% more than the 3.85 million foreign visitors who came to Taiwan in 2008, Taiwan News has reported, citing the country’s Tourism Bureau. According to the Bureau, Taiwan drew 3.45 million international visitors in the first 11 months of the year, a 12.9% year-on-year increase. It has invested TW$1 billion (US$30.9 million) to boost foreign tourist arrivals as part of its ‘Tour Taiwan Years 2008-2009’ programme, launched in February 2008.
