Regal Hotels is launching a new system allowing guests to check-in and access their rooms using only their mobile phones.
The iclub Mobile Key Check-in service will be introduced at the company’s new budget hotel, the iClub by Regal Sheung Wan Hotel, which is due to open in the first quarter of 2014.
Using the technology, guests will receive details of their room number by SMS text message, along with a special number. Upon arriving at the hotel, guests can bypass the reception desk and go straight to their room, where they will be able to call the number on the SMS. An audio signal sent to the phone will then unlock the door.
“We understand that busy business travellers are looking for travel convenience and dislike queuing up for check-in. We are proud to be the first hotel in Hong Kong offering such service, providing our guests with the convenience and innovative service,” said Belinda Yeung, Regal’s executive director & chief operating officer.
Developed by Docomo Intertouch, the mobile system is available to both smartphone and standard mobile phone users. Guests can also opt to use a standard key card.
Following the roll-out at the iclub by Regal Sheung Wan Hotel, the mobile check-in service will be extended to the iclub by Regal Tin Hau Hotel and iclub by Regal Soho Hotel, both of which are currently under construction.
